چکیده

A S pointed out in No. I. of these Studies,2 most of the reactions of Paramecium (as well as other Protozoa) are known only in their general features. The mechanism of the reactions, that is, the motions of the cilia by which they are brought about, has been determined for Paramecium only in Ludloff’s study3 of electrotaxis and my own of thigmotaxis. It is the purpose of the present paper to supply the lack thus indicated by giving a detailed account of the mechanism of the motor reactions of Paramecium. The far-reaching importance of an accurate knowledge of the exact mechanism of the reactions of Paramecium is apparent when we recall the sweeping conclusions that have been drawn from the results of studies on the reactions of this and other unicellular organisms. Theories of the mechanism of thermotaxis, geotaxis, and other reactions have been put forth, accompanied by deductions as to the remarkable sensitiveness of protoplasm to the various classes of reagents, and these theories have borne an important part in forming various prevalent conceptions in general physiology and in compara-

تاثیرات مواجهه مزمن استات سرب بر واکنش به تحریکات دردناک در موش سوری

Introduction: Influences of lead on functions of many organ systems are known, but less experimental studies has been done on influences over the behavior, including pain sensation. This study was carried out to reveal possible changes in the onset and intensity of reactions to painful stimuli in mice, after long-term exposure to lead acetate. Methods: In this experimental study, 24 adult ma...

Response to Morphine in a unicellular animal model (Paramecium caudatum)

Introduction: Response to morphine and role of Nitric Oxide (NO) on expression of morphine response has been studied in vertebrates. But, little evidence is provided in the matter in earlier invertebrates. This investigation for the first time evaluated the effect of NO on expression of morphine potency in Paramecium caudatum. Methods: Animal after isolation from natural media and specific i...

The responses of horses to predator stimuli

It is not known whether the instincts of wild horses have remained strong during their centuries of domestication. Knowledge of this matter would give riders the opportunity to know more about the behavior of horses and consequently about safety for both horses and riders. In this current research, we studied the behavior of fifteen Caspian miniature horses of different ages and sexes using sti...

Fetal Reactions

By the use of ultrasound, chemical analysis and histologic techniques, the knowledge of embryo and fetal growth and developments is increasing steadily.  It has been demonstrated that the fetus can respond to sound, bright light and touch. Accordingly, works on fetal responses to external stimuli during the third trimester may ultimately lead to improvements in the techniques of antepartum fe...

Experimental and Theoretical Study of Stable Phosphorus Ylides Derived from 5-Nitroindazole in the Presence of Different Acetyelenic Esters: Furthure Insight into the Reaction Mechanism

The kinetics of the reactions between triphenylphosphine 1 and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates 2, in the presence of a NH-acid such as 5-nitroindazole 3,were studied. Corresponding kinetic parameters to all reactions were evaluated, with the second order rate constant (k) values calculated. Effects of solvent, temperature, and reactant...
